After the outbreak of World War 1, over a quarter of a million destitute Belgian refugees came to Britain, many to Sussex. Tutor Sally White will look at why they came, and then examines the support – shelter, food, clothing and employment – offered by local people, until the refugees could return to Belgium after the war.
