Bishopstone Tidemills: where History meets Archaeology – Talk at The Keep, Wednesday 27 November 2019, 2.30-3.30pm

An event at The Keep, Falmer

The abandoned settlement at Bishopstone Tidemills began in 1761 with the construction of a large tidal mill. It became a thriving village community that later included an anti-submarine seaplane base, a stable for lame racehorses and the Chailey Heritage beach hospital for children. But it all ended at the start of the Second World War.

In this talk, archaeologist Luke Barber will bring together different strands of research and evidence to trace its history.
