Christopher Whittick: What’s in a name? A Conveyance of the Manor of Burghurst – 1538
Archivist and researcher Christopher Whittick joined East Sussex Record Office in 1977, becoming eventually East Sussex County Archivist until 2019.
He is a vice-president of Sussex Archaeological Society, president of the Wealden Iron Research Group, chairman of the Sussex Historic Churches Trust, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and the Society of Antiquaries and the Artworkers Guild. He regularly teaches palaeography and local history at the Universities of Sussex, London, Oxford, Cambridge and Keele.
He was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of East Sussex in 2017.
