The Battlefields Trust History Day
The South London and South East Region’s first history day will be held in the Lewes Town Hall Meeting Room. The theme of the study day is ‘Conflict on the South Coast’ and the speaker programme is as follows:
Professor Andrew Fitzpatrick: The Roman invasions – the latest evidence for 54 BC and AD 43 Landing Sites
Julian Humphrys: The battle of Hastings – an up to date interpretation
Dr Sophie Ambler: The battle of Lewes – including Simon de Montfort’s crucial role
Dan Moorhouse: French raids in the 14th and 15th centuries – their impact on Lewes and Coastal towns
Venue: Lewes Town Hall (Meeting Room), High Street, Lewes, BN7 2QS. Lewes Town Hall is approximately 200 yards from the Railway Station and car park. Entrance to the Meeting Room is in Fisher Street.
Schedule: Registration is from 10.00am and the first talk is 10.30am. The meeting finishes at 4.00pm. Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided. A midday break of 90 minutes will enable participants to visit the Town (Museums, Castle and Cafes) and purchase lunch.
