Historic England has recently added a collection of aerial reconnaissance photographs taken during the Second World War by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) to its website. This collection also features images of Britain taken by the RAF, Aerofilms, and individuals, spanning a period from pre-WW2 to the present.

Use their map to zoom in on Lewes for some fascinating views such as this one taken by the RAF showing Malling and the Pells area in 1947:
