ASPECTS OF WAR  – SUSSEX DURING WORLD WAR II

Saturday 28 September 2024

Times – 10am – 5pm.  Arrival from 9.30am

At  – The Grange Centre, Bepton Road, Midhurst GU29 9HD

The conference will look at life in Sussex and the south at the time of World War II, for both civilians and the military. The programme will include the following speakers and talks.

William Lonergan – D-Day and the ‘Spoof’ Invasions

Chris Hare – The Fascist Movement in West Sussex

Matthew Jones – ‘West Sussex at War’ – Aspects of the Home Front during World War II

Richard Coates – The Mulberry Harbours

Brian Lavery – ‘Do not be audible from Ashington to the Chanctonbury Ring’ – Insights into the Sussex Home Guard

David Rudwick – Wartime Midhurst (including an exhibition of ephemera from the time)

Members £30; non-members £35.

Includes tea or coffee before the start and in the afternoon.

A cold buffet lunch, including sandwiches etc., can be ordered at £7.50 per person. Please add this when making your booking. Lunches must be booked by 14 September.

Those attending are otherwise welcome to bring their own lunches. Alternatively there are several food outlets within a short walk of the Centre.

There is an extensive car park next to the Grange Centre, which costs £2.50 for up to 8 hours.
