Friends of Anne of Cleves’ House host this fascinating talk on the beginnings of the town we now know as Peacehaven.

Stanley Bernard is a member of the Friends of Anne of Cleves’ House and has studied the history of Peacehaven, as well as authoring the book, Peacehaven and Telscombe Through Time.

Join Stanley and the Friends of Anne of Cleves’ House to hear the revealing story of the town’s scandalous beginnings!

Christopher Whittick: To the Manor born: manorial records for local and family historians

This is the second in a series of talks by archivist and researcher Christopher Whittick, who joined East Sussex Record Office in 1977, becoming eventually East Sussex County Archivist until 2019.

He is a vice-president of Sussex Archaeological Society, president of the Wealden Iron Research Group, chairman of the Sussex Historic Churches Trust, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and the Society of Antiquaries and the Artworkers Guild. He regularly teaches palaeography and local history at the Universities of Sussex, London, Oxford, Cambridge and Keele.

He was appointed  as a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of East Sussex in 2017.
