The History Group has been interested in the history of Lewes streets for some time.
In 2010 Sue Weeks presented an account of her investigations into the history of St John Street at a History Group meeting. This spurred on several other members to take a look at their own streets. At the January 2012 History Group meeting we held a workshop to get an overview of what members knew about the areas of the town where they lived. Some History Group members also participated in the ‘The Great British Story day on Lewes held at the All Saints on 24th June 2012.
The main aim of this project is to support a variety of groups with training in skills and professional advice as well as to provide new insights into the history of our streets. Several groups have begun to look at the possibilities in their own particular areas, and one idea is to use an interactive map to illustrate progress and to link to project web pages.
If you are interested in getting in touch with one of these groups or want to look at your own area please contact Ian McClelland, or the individuals via the pages linked below.
