Genevieve (Vivi) Church, nee Auld has lived on South Way for most of her life.
She shares some remarkable memories of life there with her family and friends in an interview with Jenni Bonsor and Ann Holmes of the Nevill Street Stories team. There are vivid memories about WW2, going to school at Miss Walker’s, Western Road Primary, and Lewes County Grammar, and much more. Some Lewesians will remember Vivi’s father, Mr Auld, who led the school trips to France which led to the Twinning Association between Lewes and Blois.
Vivi’s story is the latest in a series of spoken memories about early life and events on the Nevill, which together with a large collection of photos and cuttings, is accessible to everyone at the Lewes History Group website, as part of our Lewes Street Stories series.
Start here for the Nevill Memoirs, and then explore the image collection, and Ann Holmes’s account of how the Nevill Estate came to be built, and its early development, at Yes, the Nevill Does Have a History!
