Brigitte Lardinois: Unlocking the Reeves Archive in Lewes

Two years ago Brigitte Lardinois, a photographic historian resident in Lewes, approached Tom Reeves and Tania Osband with a proposal to map their archive, housed at the Edward Reeves Studio at No. 159 High Street. Their business has been in continual operation since 1855 and is likely to be the oldest still working photographic studio, run by the same family at the same premises, in the world. There are over 100,000 carefully numbered glass plates.

Brigitte will share with us her research strategy and discuss the plans for the unlocking of this archive.

All are welcome from 7.00pm for free refreshments and updates on the Group’s activities. The talk will begin promptly at 7:30pm and will finish by 9.00pm.

There is an entry fee for these meetings, payable at the door, of £2 for members, and £3 for non-members.

Tutor Graham Mayhew provides a fascinating insight into the lives of the monks of St. Pancras, based on research for his recent book. He will introduce you to the lives of the monks of Lewes Priory from their admission to their deaths, examining their daily routine, seasonal festivities, education and careers.

Simon Stevens: Old Walls, Wellies and Wasps – Recent Archaeological Work at Lewes Priory

Simon is Senior Archaeologist at Archaeology South-East. He will talk about recent archaeological work at Lewes Priory.

This will be followed at around 8.45pm by the AGM.

Venue: Lecture Room, Lewes Town Hall (Fisher Street entrance, lift access available)
