Podcast of the Sussex Archaeological Society’s lecture on the Battle of Lewes delivered by the eminent medieval historian Professor David Carpenter, the author of The Battle of Lewes and Evesham.
This event launched the Sussex Archaeological Society’s Battle of Lewes Project, and was made possible by generous funding from the Heritage Lottery. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of the Battle of Lewes. which was fought on 14 May 1264. Britain’s first ever national parliament was called after Simon de Montfort won this glorious victory over Henry III. The lecture was followed by a talk about the Project, including suggestions for ways in which your community group can get involved.
