Lewes History Group Members’ Trip: The 1914 House Tour, Preston Manor – Friday 8th August 2014, from 2pm

The 4th of August 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the day Britain entered one of the costliest conflicts in history – The First World War – with the fighting continuing until the 11th of November 1918: Armistice Day.

Commemorate this historic date with the 1914 House Tour at Preston Manor. One house, twelve people and an extraordinary moment in history. Experience 1914 as it was lived in one Brighton household rocked by the outbreak of war. This new tour takes you on a revealing exploration of the everyday through real-life stories and practical demonstrations. Find out what people ate, wore, read, how they communicated, slept, washed and even what they smelt like as the world plunged into a conflict that would leave no inhabitant untouched.
