Bridge Cottage in the 17th century – talk on 7 September 2017, 7-8pm

A Bridge Cottage Heritage Centre, Uckfield event

Heritage Education Officer Maria will explore some of the early history of Bridge Cottage. The talk will cover the building of the Cottage and modifications made to it in the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as describing daily life in a rural house in the 17th century.

Please note this talk replaces the previously advertised talk on Tudor Clothing by Glynis Riddle. Glynis will now give her talk on December 7th 2017.

Edward Reeves Archive: Stories Seen Through a Glass Plate II – 1914-1918: Lewes Remembers, 19th Aug – 24th Sept 2017

An Exhibition of 80 lightboxes in 65 windows throughout Lewes – with new online tour

Another chance to see this nationally acclaimed exhibition, now enhanced with additional images and audio/visual online trail.

This exhibition draws on images in the Edward Reeves Archive that cover the WW1 period. These include individual and group portraits of soldiers and their families, as well as civilian life during the war and photographs of the thousands of men billeted in the town.

The Online Tour

As you follow the lightbox trail you can now listen to period letters, stories and newspaper reports presented in fascinating audio clips. There are also many added images from the Edward Reeves archive.

A key to the trail

There will be a window display in the Lewes Tourist Information Centre from 1 to 15 September 2017, where a map of the trail is available free of charge. For information call 01273 483448.

New book by Marietta Van Dyck – Lewes in Detail

Van Dyck book cover Lewes in detailArtist Marietta Van Dyck has recently produced a new book containing some of the detailed pen and ink drawings she has produced over the years for Lewes News.

Copies are available at a number of outlets in Lewes at £5.00 and will also be available at a discounted rate to members at the Friends of Lewes meeting on September 14th 2017.
