Artist Marietta Van Dyck has recently produced a new book containing some of the detailed pen and ink drawings she has produced over the years for Lewes News.
Copies are available at a number of outlets in Lewes at £5.00 and will also be available at a discounted rate to members at the Friends of Lewes meeting on September 14th 2017.

The new season of events begins with the Lewes Heritage Open Days from Thursday to Sunday 7th – 10th September 2017, organised by the Friends of Lewes.
The Society’s plan to imaginatively restore the Magic Circle in the Castle Precincts as a Peace Garden will be revealed on Thursday 14th September, along with the launch of a fund-raising campaign to raise funds for the project.
Two talks follow in October and November: on plans to moderate flooding of the River Ouse using sustainable landscape approaches, which restore natural habitats; and a slide show of previously unseen photographs taken by long-term Lewes resident Jim Franks.

A Bridge Cottage Heritage Centre, Uckfield event
The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Manor of South Malling extended north-east from South Malling proper up into the Weald. Various surveys of its holdings were made over time, and August 2017 is the 400th anniversary of the 1617 survey of the Manor of South Malling.
Bridge Cottage in Uckfield marks the occasion with local historian Brian Philips reading out all of the Uckfield entries in the 1617 survey. This will take place outside Bridge Cottage at 12 noon on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 2017.
These entries paint an intriguing picture of what Uckfield looked like in the 17th century.
In addition, the Gallyard Tudor Dancers will also be giving a display of dance and costume from the period.
