Greg Chuter: Malling Hill Skeletons

Recent investigations on Malling Hill resulted from a piece of human bone found eroding out of a rabbit burrow on the east side of the hill. The most exciting discovery was a mass grave containing a group of men executed in the Saxon period, who may have been captured Viking raiders.

BHAS helped fund the lab analysis so at this talk Greg will give the latest scientific news on where these men came from.

Greg Chuter is the Assistant County Archaeologist for East Sussex.

A Bridge Cottage Heritage Centre Uckfield Event

Nicola Stewart: Top Secret Sussex

Nicola is a Bridge Cottage education officer, who will talk about the military presence in the Sussex during WW2. She will cover the top secret radio transmitter code named Aspidistra, which was sited at Kings Standing on Ashdown Forest; HMS Forward: a top secret naval base in secret tunnels at South Heighton, Newhaven, a ‘stone frigate’ naval base; Secret Operations Executive (SOE) agent Diana Rowden who lived locally at Hadlow Down.

A Landport Residents’ Association event

This exhibition will show how life has changed on Landport, based on stories and photos from people who have lived and worked on the estate.

Find out about things like who lived in the houses on the estate in 1939, what they did, the meanings of the street names in Landport, and more.
