A talk at The Keep

Dr Geoffrey Mead will look at the sources of Sussex building materials, both local and imported.

The geology of the county dictated the vernacular styles, from Wealden sandstones to coastal cobbles, while the long coastline, accessible rivers and creeks plus the proximity to the Continent, saw imported materials in many of the coastal communities.

The Cloister and the Gate: the Monks of Lewes Priory and the Laity

Pass through the Priory Gatehouse with us as a visitor as we join the pilgrims and the patrons and enter the cloistered world of the monks
