In 1932, Ellen and Charles Thomas-Stanford bequeathed the Preston Manor house, contents, grounds, and garden to the Brighton Corporation. During the 1800s, the Preston Manor estate stretched for miles into Brighton and down to the seafront. Today the Manor shows the day-to-day lives of both the landed gentry and their servants, reflecting Edwardian concerns of hierarchy and social etiquette.
The Preston Manor tour is a unique guided tour where you will discover hidden rooms and secret places not normally open to the public.

Tickets are available for this and other LHG outings from Paul Waller (Outings Organiser) on meeting nights at The King’s Church in Lewes or by contacting him on 01323 872088.
The outings are primarily for Lewes History Group members only, but they may purchase tickets for accompanying non-members. When possible tours will be exclusively for LHG – but to start with, this first tour to Preston Manor will be part of a public tour. If there is demand for further visits, we hope these will be exclusive to our members.
All members are asked to make their own way to the venue in good time. Regrettably we are not able to to arrange transportation for these trips.
The train or bus to Brighton may be an excellent way to travel on this occasion. The 13.14 from Lewes Train station arrives at Brighton Station 13.30, and the 13.37 train from Brighton arrives at Preston Park station at 13.41. The Nos. 28 or 29 Bus leave the Lewes Bus Station at 12.39 and arrive on the Steine at 13.10. Change onto a No. 5 or 5A at North Street Stop A leaving 13.15 or 13.25 to Preston Manor.
